Volunteer with Alorah Foundation
Alorah works because people give their time. If you can spare some, tell us who you are and what you can do, and a trustee will telephone you.
Offering is not the same as being taken on.
A trustee reads every form and telephones you. We check what you have told us, including by ringing the person you name as a reference, and the trustees decide. If we take you on we issue you a volunteer card with your photograph on it, and it is valid for a year.
What we need most
- Field work. Visiting a home to verify an application, delivering a ration kit, sitting with a family at a hospital.
- Professional skills. Doctors, teachers, accountants, lawyers, counsellors, designers, anybody whose trade can be given for an afternoon.
- Quiet administrative help. Answering the telephone, entering records, checking documents, writing letters. Work that can be done from home.
- Language. Reading and writing Tamil or Malayalam with somebody who cannot.
Tell us about yourself
What we do with what you tell us, and the law that governs it
- What we collect: your name and telephone number, where you live, what you do, what you can offer, the person you name as a reference, the ID you name, and your photograph if you send one.
- Why: to decide whether to take you on, to reach you when there is work, and to print your volunteer card if we do.
- Who sees it: our trustees, and the staff member who records it. Nobody else. We do not sell it and we do not share it for advertising.
- How long: for as long as you volunteer with us, and afterwards only where our records require it.
- Your rights: ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to erase it, or withdraw your consent. Write to alorahfoundation@gmail.com and we answer within 15 days.
- If we get it wrong: tell the Managing Trustee first. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Thank you
We have your offer. A trustee will read it and telephone you on the number you gave.
Please remember: this is not an acceptance yet. We check what you have told us and the trustees decide. We will let you know either way.
