The Alorah Foundation app

Everything on this website, carried in your pocket: every open need with its ledger, your 80G receipts, and the application you are waiting on. It is free, it is on Android, and you do not need an account to give.

What you can do in it

• Give, with the 80G benefit. Card, UPI or net banking, or a UPI QR carrying the amount already. The receipt is issued against the same donation and donor IDs the website issues, because both are asking the same server.
• Follow a need you funded. Every open need carries its goal, what has come in, what is still short and what has been given so far, with the trustee's photographs as the work happens.
• Be told when something changes. The app can tell you when a new need opens and when an update is posted to one. Two things, and nothing else. You are asked for permission by a switch you turn on yourself, never on first opening.
• Keep your 80G receipts. Sign in with the email on your donation and every receipt you have is there to download again, so a lost email in March is not a telephone call to the trust.
• Track an assistance application. Your reference number and the phone number on the application, with no account to create and no code to wait for.
• Read the accounts. The registrations, the audited filings and the annual documents, the same ones published on this site.

What it does not do

• It never makes you sign in to give. A stranger can open it, donate and receive a receipt without ever creating anything. Signing in only adds seeing your own past donations.
• It carries no advertising and sells nothing. Donations to a registered charitable trust sit outside Google Play billing, so nothing is bought inside the app.
• It never runs in the background. Location is asked for on a tap, in the foreground, on the one screen that needs it, and background location is blocked in the app itself.
• It publishes no donor and no beneficiary by name. Donor and beneficiary lists are masked in the app exactly as they are masked here.

You do not need it

This is worth saying plainly, because a charity that hides behind an install is a charity making itself harder to give to. Everything the app does, alorah.org does: you can donate, read every open need, apply for assistance, fetch a receipt again and read the accounts in any browser, on any phone or computer, with nothing installed. The app is for people who would rather have it on a home screen.

There is no iPhone version yet. When there is, it will be named on this page.

Your data, and closing your account

The app collects what this website collects and nothing further: what you type into a donation or an application, and, if you turn notifications on, a token identifying that handset so a message can reach it. What each piece is used for is set out in the privacy policy, and the notice on each form names it again before you consent, as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 requires.

You can close your sign in and remove your contact details from inside the app, or on this website without installing anything, at alorah.org/delete-account. Your donations and 80G receipts are kept, because the Income Tax Act requires the trust to keep them, and that page says so rather than promising an erasure that cannot lawfully happen.
