Child and maternal care: safety, nutrition and a safe delivery

The first thousand days decide a great deal of the rest. Alorah Foundation supports expectant mothers and young children with nutrition, medical care and protection, and stays with the family afterwards.

What Alorah Foundation does in this cause

  • Prenatal checkups, supplements and safe delivery support for expectant mothers.
  • Nutrition for infants and young children, and for mothers who are feeding them.
  • Protection from exploitation, trafficking and child labour, and help reaching the authorities.
  • Immunisation, paediatric care and the cost of treating a child’s illness.
  • Early development support so a child starts school on the same footing as the others.

Who this reaches, and how we follow it

Maternal need is quiet. A mother short of iron and of checkups rarely asks anybody for anything, and the cost of that silence appears years later in a child. This is why we run this cause through named needs on the website: an expectant mother in Coimbatore District can be funded by a stranger who never meets her, and the outcome is documented without ever publishing her photograph if her dignity asks for privacy.

Every open need on alorah.org shows what is required, what has come in and what is still short, and funded projects are photographed before, after and for five years afterwards. Where a person’s dignity asks for privacy, the outcome is documented without photographs. See the live needs for what is open today.

If you need help

If you are expecting, or you are caring for a child who needs medical help or nutrition, apply for assistance. Applications about children are treated as urgent. Assistance is offered without discrimination of caste, creed, religion or gender, and the documents you send are held privately and never published.
