Livelihood and self reliance: tools, vehicles and a trade

The best charity is the one a family stops needing. Alorah Foundation gives working people the tools, the vehicle or the training that turns assistance into an income they own.

What Alorah Foundation does in this cause

  • Tools and equipment for a trade: tailoring, carpentry, repair work, catering and more.
  • Vehicles such as an auto rickshaw or a cart, where the vehicle is the livelihood.
  • Working capital for a small shop or a street business, sized to actually start it.
  • Training and certification where the trade requires it, including a licence.
  • Follow up in the years afterwards, because a gift that fails quietly teaches us nothing.

Who this reaches, and how we follow it

This is the cause we push donors towards when they ask what gives the most for the money. A monthly ration feeds a family for a month. A sewing machine and three months of training feed them for a decade, and the family is the one doing the feeding. It is slower, it fails more often, and it is worth it.

Every open need on alorah.org shows what is required, what has come in and what is still short, and funded projects are photographed before, after and for five years afterwards. Where a person’s dignity asks for privacy, the outcome is documented without photographs. See the live needs for what is open today.

If you need help

If you have a trade and the only thing missing is the equipment or the capital to start, apply for assistance and tell us exactly what you need and what it costs. Assistance is offered without discrimination of caste, creed, religion or gender, and the documents you send are held privately and never published.

If you want to help

Every donation to Alorah Foundation is eligible for deduction under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act, and your receipt carries the registration numbers your accountant will ask for. You do not need an account to give. Read how the 80G tax benefit works, or give now on the donate section.
