Environment and farming: trees, water and rural livelihoods

The land a family farms is also the thing that will feed the next family. Alorah Foundation supports afforestation, water conservation and organic farming, alongside the rural livelihoods that depend on all three.

What Alorah Foundation does in this cause

  • Tree planting and afforestation, with the maintenance that decides whether a sapling lives.
  • Water conservation: recharge structures, pond restoration and rainwater harvesting.
  • Support for smallholders moving to organic methods, including the lean first season.
  • Farm inputs, tools and irrigation support for families farming small plots.
  • Rural livelihood work in the villages and hill settlements where farming is the only work there is.

Who this reaches, and how we follow it

Environmental work is measured over years or it is not measured at all, which suits the way this trust already documents its projects. A planted sapling and a recharged well are both photographed at the start and revisited, so a donor can see the difference between a tree that was planted and a tree that is still alive.

Every open need on alorah.org shows what is required, what has come in and what is still short, and funded projects are photographed before, after and for five years afterwards. Where a person’s dignity asks for privacy, the outcome is documented without photographs. See the live needs for what is open today.

If you need help

If you farm a small holding and need seed, tools or irrigation support, apply for assistance and describe the land and the season you are planning for. Assistance is offered without discrimination of caste, creed, religion or gender, and the documents you send are held privately and never published.
